Is the Orlando Informer Meetup Worth It for Families? Our Full Review, Plus What You Need to Know About Epic Universe

We've now been to the Orlando Informer Meetup three times: Summer 2025, Winter 2025, and June 2026. Every time, we've left saying the same thing: this event delivers. Here's everything you need to know before you decide if it's right for your family.
The Orlando Informer Meetup is a privately ticketed event held at Universal Orlando. It's not a membership and it's not a fan convention. It's a two night exclusive experience inside the actual Universal theme parks: lower crowds, unlimited food at participating restaurants, character meet and greets, and ride access without the lines you'd deal with on a normal park day.
The event runs Friday and Saturday night each season and wraps up at 12:30 AM. Here's how the timeline actually works.
Check in opens at 3 PM at Arrival Bytes. You grab your wristband and credentials, enjoy the entertainment and early refreshments, then head into the parks alongside regular day guests. For that first hour or so before park close, your wristband gets you into designated free food spots while everything else runs as normal, a warm up window. Then park close hits, day guests leave, and the exclusive event kicks in. That's when unlimited food opens up at every participating restaurant, the crowds drop, and the parks feel like yours.
Count the full window from 3 PM to 12:30 AM and you're close to the same amount of park time as a standard day ticket. Parks typically stay open about ten hours on a regular day, so you're really only giving up about two hours on the front end for a full night event most families never get to have. Orlando Informer also runs multiple weekends per season, which spreads the crowds across dates instead of dumping everyone into one night.
Check in happens at a dedicated area called Arrival Bytes, and it's a whole experience on its own, not just a table where someone hands you a wristband. You pick up your credentials, and there's live entertainment, refreshments, and meet and greet time with Churro, the Orlando Informer mascot.
Our kids love Churro! That big blue bird is a highlight every single time, and meeting him before you even step into the park sets the tone for the whole night. It feels like being welcomed into something exclusive, not just checking in for a ticket.
Check in opens at 3 PM sharp, and getting there close to that time gives you the most runway for the night. We checked in later during the June 2026 event because of a rain delay and still had a great time, but earlier is better. Before you go, read every email Orlando Informer sends you and keep the official Orlando Informer app handy during the event. Both are loaded with real time info on food locations, character schedules, and anything that shifts that night.
The unlimited food is the biggest reason this event pays for itself. Here's the math.
On a normal day at Universal, our crew budgets roughly $70 to $80 per meal at a sit down restaurant. That's one meal. Now imagine no limit on that, at every restaurant, all night long. Burger Digs, Thunder Falls, Circus McGurkus, the Three Broomsticks, and more, no cap on what you order. Each stop is its own thing.
At the June 2026 event, we hit Burger Digs first and tried the new Velociraptor tart dessert. We ordered seconds because we could, and because it was that good! Then we walked over to Thunder Falls for some of the best grilled chicken and ribs we've had at a theme park, period. The food is prepared fresh for the event. Same park menu you know, just made at its absolute best.
At the Summer 2025 event, we ate at Circus McGurkus and the spread was incredible: roast beef sliders, chicken and waffles, and a cream filled dessert we still talk about. We also kept the butterbeer flowing all night, which adds up fast at about $7 a cup on a normal day.
Add it all up across multiple restaurant stops and the math isn't close. The food alone regularly covers the ticket price before we've even gotten on a ride.
The food menu changes with the season. Summer leans into warm weather comfort food and themed desserts. Winter brings holiday items, hot drinks, and festive treats like the Grinch cookies we demolished at the Winter 2025 event. Check the Orlando Informer event guide when you buy tickets so you know what to prioritize.
At Orlando Informer, you get to do the things you normally skip. On a regular day with kids, you're making constant trade offs between wait times, heat, and energy levels. Spider-Man has a 45 minute wait, so you skip it. Hagrid's is an hour and a half, so you debate it and move on.
At this event, none of that applies. Spider-Man was a walk on! We went straight through the Express entrance and saw parts of the queue we'd never noticed before, after years of coming to these parks.
Then there's Hagrid's. As of July 1, 2026, Universal ended Express Pass access for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, the most popular ride at Islands of Adventure. There's now no way to skip that line on a regular day ticket. At Orlando Informer, that doesn't apply. We made it our first stop of the June 2026 night. Posted wait was 20 minutes all night, and we were on in about 15! Our daughters Aria and Alexa rode it for the first time, and doing that without a 90 minute line is something a standard park day just couldn't give us.
As of July 1, 2026, Universal ended Express Pass access for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. On a regular day that ride can sit at 60 to 90 minutes with no way to skip it. At the June 2026 Orlando Informer Meetup, it posted 20 minutes all night and we were on in about 15. Make it your first stop.
The key to the ride side of this event is flexibility. Don't get married to one ride. If something's taking more than ten minutes, move on and come back later. With two parks and a 9-plus hour window, you have more time than you think. We learned this the hard way at our first event: get stuck waiting an hour on one ride and you'll feel behind all night. Treat it like a stroll, not a sprint.
Universal also runs the best child swap system of any park we've visited: dedicated swap rooms, a clear process, and your group stays together as much as possible. If your little ones aren't at height requirements yet, that shouldn't keep you from going. Child swap makes it work.
Meeting a character at Orlando Informer is a walk up. No line, you just go. On a regular park day, ride lines in those same areas can run 30 to 45 minutes, which eats into any time you'd spend on a meet and greet. Here, that trade off disappears. We've met Spider-Man at both the Summer 2025 and June 2026 events, and both times it was immediate: no crowd, no rush, actual time with the character instead of a quick photo and a shove along.
The character lineup shifts by season. Summer events bring the expected Universal characters. At the Winter 2025 Meetup, the Grinch had his own meet and greet, and a holiday version of Churro was out in Universal Studios, the same characters that come with real crowds and long waits during the official Universal Holiday Celebration. At Orlando Informer, you just walk up.
If your kids care about meet and greets, this is the version of Universal where it actually feels real, not rushed.
We've done both seasons now, and they're genuinely different events. Here's how we'd break it down.
The Summer Meetup is the theme park experience at its purest: more ride focused, summer specific food menus, great for families who want to maximize park time with kids old enough to ride. Crowd management is excellent since the event spreads across multiple weekends.
The Winter Meetup adds a layer of magic on top of that. Diagon Alley at Christmas is, hands down, one of the most beautifully decorated spaces we've walked through at any theme park! The holiday shows get special overlays, the food leans festive, and the characters are in holiday outfits, all without the crowds, premium ticket prices, and exhausting lines that come with the official Universal Holiday Celebration.
Our take: if your kids are young and ready to feel the magic of a lit up park at Christmas, do Winter. If you want the most ride heavy, kid optimized night possible, go Summer. If you can swing both, do both.
We've done this event both ways, and we'll say it plainly: one night is not enough to do everything.
The event gives you unlimited food and ride access, and trying to prioritize both in a single night means constant choosing. One more restaurant or one more ride? Wait for the character meet and greet or get back on Spider-Man? That tension never fully goes away in one night.
Two nights solves it. Use night one for rides. Use night two to slow down: eat at every spot you want, catch the shows, take in the atmosphere, and let the kids set the pace. You stop rushing and start actually enjoying it.
At the June 2026 event we did one night and had a great time, but we said it out loud anyway: two nights is the move if your budget allows it. The per night rate drops on a multi-night ticket, so the math improves when you add the second night.
That price tag is the first thing families notice, and it gives some people pause. Fair question: is it actually worth it? Here's what you're comparing it to.
A standard one day Universal park ticket with park-to-park access runs well over $150 per person before you touch a single piece of food. Add Express Pass and that's another $80 to $200 per person depending on the day. Add food for your crew on top of that, and you're well above what an Orlando Informer ticket costs, for a regular crowded park day with no exclusive access and no unlimited food.
The Orlando Informer ticket covers park admission and unlimited food from 3 PM to 12:30 AM, with low crowds and no extra fees at the gate. Put it next to a real cost day ticket and the value isn't close.
Our take for out-of-town families visiting Universal: this is close to a no-brainer. If you're spending money on a park day anyway, there's almost no scenario where the Orlando Informer Meetup doesn't offer more value. For locals with annual passes, it's still worth it for the food alone, plus the exclusive access and a version of the parks a regular visit just can't match.
Orlando Informer releases early bird pricing leading up to each event. Buying early can save you between $30 and $85 per ticket compared to the door price. Keep an eye on OrlandoInformer.com and their email list for discount announcements. Prices increase as the event fills up, so the longer you wait, the more you pay.
One of our favorite moves at this event is what we call the hotel drop. After a few hours in the parks with the younger kids, we put them in the stroller, walk over to our Universal resort hotel, drop them off with a trusted adult, and head back in for the rest of the night.
At the June 2026 event we stayed at Endless Summer Dockside, and the round trip from park to hotel and back took about 30 minutes. What you get on the other side is two to three hours in the parks with just you and your partner or your older kids, moving freely, doing things that are harder to pull off with a stroller or a toddler in tow. That's four rides and two more restaurants we would have otherwise missed!
At a previous event we used Cabana Bay for the same move, same result. Staying on-site gives you a real advantage at this event, and if you're attending, we'd recommend it for exactly this reason.
Orlando Informer just announced the first ever Meetup at Epic Universe, happening November 13, 2026, and this is huge.
Epic Universe is the most anticipated theme park addition in a generation. We've been there twice now and it's everything the hype promised. Low crowds, unlimited food across Epic Universe restaurants, and no line at Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry? We can't wait!
Epic Universe is included on November 13 only, and you must purchase the two-night ticket package to access it. The two-night package (November 13 at Epic Universe plus November 14 at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida) runs $450 plus taxes and fees. A single-night ticket for November 14 only covers the original two parks at $254. If Epic Universe is the reason you're going, you need the two-night package. Bottom line: the unlimited food alone regularly covers the ticket price. Add near-empty parks, no-wait character meet and greets, and access to rides like Hagrid's that are harder than ever to ride on a regular day, and the Orlando Informer Meetup earns its cost easily. We've done it three times, and we're already looking forward to the next one. Can you blame us? With Epic Universe now part of the lineup, it just got even better.
